A visual memoir created to honor Jack A. Clark's life.

This book honors the life Jack A. Clark, a retired psychiatrist who lived in Baltimore and passed away in 2011. Jack was an art lover and collector, he enjoyed going to museums and the opera, traveling, reading and making his own quirky sculptural art. Jack was a diligent some would say obsessive writer of journals, each day he noted how he felt, what he saw and experienced. He also made long lists of things he was interested in, and recorded quotes from writers and songs that moved him. I was able to photograph a selection of Jack’s journals and objects when close friends of mine in Baltimore came into some of Jack’s possessions upon his death. Jack had no next of kin, so the majority of his things were sold at auction and the funds went to the city of Baltimore’s school system. Looking at Jack’s journals pages I was touched with the honesty and level of intimacy I experienced when reading his words. Poignant and funny, anguished and torn this book gives us a sense of Jack’s thoughts on art and culture, relationships, sexuality, race and work issues. Towards the end of Jack’s journals he wrote of struggling with the emotions of growing old and his own mortality, and what to do with all the things he collected along the way. I enjoyed the clues that Jack left behind, I have come to know him through his journal pages and I hope you will too.

First woman to bicycle around the border of China 1987-89.

Yu Juanjuan is an athlete & Chinese language teacher who lives in Boulder, CO. She was born in China and in her late 20′s achieved an amazing athletic feat, she biked around the perimeter of China, a distance of 25,000 miles, 40,000 kilometers or the equivalent of biking the circumference of the world. Starting in Beijing in Sept. 1987 her team of 5 set out to bike the perimeter of China. Juanjuan ended up being the only one to finish the journey, returning to Beijing in 1989 after 22 months on the road. She came to me with a variety of historical color mini prints & albums. I was brought on to organize and manage the project – I did the design, layout, editing and scanning with the help of her husband Phil Wegener. This book is in the final stages and we hope to do an epub version soon. Juanjuan’s story is one of courage, athleticism, adventure and pride in her culture. To learn more about Juanjuan you can visit this website: http://philipwegener.com/Juanjuan.html and her blog: http://yu-juanjuan.blogspot.com/

Houston based, Daniel Kramer's photo journalistic style wedding portfolio.

Daniel Kramer is a Houston based award-winning photojournalist who has worked for many of the top magazines in this country. He has also been documenting weddings for more than 10 years and wanted a new marketing piece to promote this segment of his business. He asked me to tweak a design he created featuring the best of his wedding photographs. The goal was to create an affordable printed piece that he could hand out to prospective clients. I worked to update his design and suggested new images to feature and pull from his collection of images. Together we created an elegant printed piece that showcases his fun filled and intimate style of wedding photographs.

Inga hired me to create her photo book that features a series of her personal artwork - Muzzled.

Boulder based fine art photographer Inga Pae hired me to edit and sequence a group of images she had created to visually convey her interpretation of the word: Muzzled. Created in the studio with models, the set up portraits are psychological and disturbing at times, the face is often being plug, shut, quieted, shut down, wrapped, censored, repressed, & misrepresented, etc. The images have tangential quotes and blocks of color break up the layout. We selected Blurb for the printing, using a 7 inches square format, created with premium paper. The book was created for Inga’s promotional purposes.
Elegant 11 x 13 inches Blurb photography book showcasing Wilkinson's sensual and abstract color images of liquid.

Lewis Wilkinson asked me to edit, sequence and create a book to feature his sensual, liquid and abstract photographs. His images explore a common everyday item – a glass bowl of soup. In the studio his imagination opened up when looking down, up, and through the surface of the soup. His images capture the every changing arrangements of abstract organic forms created by the fluid mix of water, seaweed and Miso. These landscapes and space like forms are viewed as if on the bottom of the ocean. This meditative and beautiful book is broken up into three chapters organized around Japanese ideas of space and art. This elegant 11 x 13 inches Blurb book has a gentle power and is visually intriguing.

Lewis Wilkinson is a photographer based in Miami and Richmond, VA. He photographed the students and staff of St. Joseph’s Villa candidly and in the studio over the course of a couple of weeks. Lewis asked me to create a magazine that could be utilized by St. Joseph’s Villa as a fund raising tool and as a portfolio piece to illustrate his work for non-for profit organizations. The magazine is a visual way to show the people the Villa’s services and the many ways this organization helps children and individuals on a daily basis. The Villa’s day and residential programs include: special and nontraditional education; education/housing services for homeless children and their families; respite, summer and after-school care for children with disabilities; and housing for adults with disabilities.

Based in LA, California, photographer Sara Jane Boyers has spent over 8 years photographing more than 200 Chinatown communities through out the USA and Canada. I was hired to edit and sequence her Chinatown work and help her create a portfolio piece to showcase this body of work. We used Magcloud for the printing and their price of .20 a page can’t be beat. She has used this piece to present herself to galleries and to sell to collectors. Her images covered a broad range of subject matter from candid street documentation, reportage images of shop fronts, architecture, restaurants and neighborhoods. We together on the edit & sequence going back and forth before we final nailed the final sequence we both were happy with. I wrote an introduction essay as a forward to the piece. Link to Magcloud where she is selling copies of her magazine Into the Chinatowns.
Susan Farricielli's portfolio piece. A catalog documenting Nutmeg Steel series of sculptures created from wooden foundry patterns found at Nutmeg Steel foundry.

Portfolio piece created for sculptor Susan Farricielli. She desired an art catalog of her sculptures created from discarded wooden foundry patterns. Susan got a tip through a friend that the Branford, CT foundry – Nutmeg Steel’s industrial wooden patterns were about to be thrown away and burned. She got permission from the owners to salvage them. She selected and loaded these wood foundry patterns into her truck. Back in the studio her sculptural pieces reflect the industrial ingenuity and craftsmanship of the men who worked at the Nutmeg Steel foundry. This piece serves as a narrative, a catalog of her artwork, and a back story of the foundry’s history. We used Magcloud for printing and distribution of this piece. To view more of Susan’s artwork you can visit her artist website: http://www.susanfarricielli.com
